Setting goals has recently been a top priority for me and my clients. This, in my opinion, is the result of a lack of motivation on my part.
After competing in my first powerlifting competition three weeks ago, I returned to the gym eager to resume various training methods but without any specific objectives in mind.
I found it challenging to concentrate and stay focused as I began my workout. I wanted to get my diet under control, but I lacked the motivation to actually follow through.
I came to the realisation that my lack of goals was the root cause of everything. Nothing was encouraging me to improve or encourage me to continue on the right path.
Why do we set goals and objectives?
Setting goals offers us something to consistently work for, which is essential in both the gym and in life. It implies that there is something behind the hard effort that motivates us to push through it and not give in on the days when we may not feel entirely inspired to exercise and eat healthfully.
Reasons Why
Due to the fact that they haven't genuinely discovered why they want to do something, most people struggle to achieve their goal.
For instance, I knew I wanted to lose weight when I started, but I didn't really focus on it or find my drive until I identified my triggers and the reasons I wanted to do it in the first place.
When I looked at pictures of myself and my friends, I wondered, "Do I really look like that?
", going clothing shopping and having clothes that don't fit or look good on you, and even just walking causes you to become exhausted and out of breath.
You must comprehend what drives you and led to the development of these objectives.
Try to recall what motivated you to actually start exercising if you recently joined a gym or began working with a personal trainer. What spurred you on to call a PT or eventually sign up for a gym membership one day?
Get a piece of paper, and write out your objective, your motivation, and the timetable for achieving it.
This will enable you to hold yourself responsible for really achieving your goal within your deadline while also understanding why you are doing it.
Tell your pals
For some people, this may work well, but not for others. However, it's a terrific idea to involve your close friends and family in your objectives. This will help you when you go out to eat or on the weekends because your loved ones will encourage you and support your efforts to keep to it.
Having said that, it's critical to make sure that the individuals you inform are encouraging and really interested in your success. Numerous others may try to pull you down or prevent you from following through with your plan because they don't want to see you successful or don't understand your "whys."
Setting goals is essential for maintaining your motivation throughout your trip. Realizing that not everyone can remain motivated at all times is crucial. Everyone experiences days when they are particularly hungry or exhausted, and on those occasions, you simply need to rest or eat more food.
The key to sustaining yourself is balance; if your way of life isn't viable, you'll eventually rebound. Make sure your goals are attainable, time-bound, and that you are aware of your "whys" if you take anything else away from this post.
